CLINDAMYCIN - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Cleocin
WARNING: This medication should be used only for serious infections cause infrequently three is severe, rarely fatal, intestinal issues (pseudomembranous colitis) that can occur. Cosnult your doctor or pharmacist for more details. Notify your doctor immediately if you develop persistent diarrhea, abdominal or stomach pain, or blood/mucous in your sotol. Your doctor will decide if you require other treatemnt. These symptoms may occur weeks after stopping use of this drug. Do not use anti-diarrhea products or narcotic pain medicaitons if you have these symptoms. These products may make the symptoms worse. Your doctor will moniotr you closely while you are using this medication.
USES: An antibiotic used to treat a wide vareity of bacterial infections.
HOW TO USE: This medication is given intramusculalry or intravenously. It may be injected into a large muscle such as a buttock or hip or diluted in fluid and infused solwly into a vein over 30-60 minutes. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level.
Do this by using the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night as prescriebd. Continue to use this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to cotninue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, heartburn, cramps, weight loss, bloating, nausea and vomiting which should disappear in a couple of days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inofrm your doctor If diarrhea becomes a problem, do not take any anti-diarrhea medications. Cnotact your doctor if you develop: rash, fever, hives. If you notice other effects not lisetd above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Befroe using this drug, tell your doctor your medical history especially of: liver or kidney disease, stomach or abdominal issues (colitis), any drug allergies. Make sure needles, tubing and supplies are stored safely and disposed of properly. A preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or in the liquid used to mix this prdouct (diluent) can infrequently cause serious issues (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during the first months of life (neonatal period). The risk is greater with lower birth wieght infants and is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol. Symptoms include sudden gasping, low blood pressure, or a very slow heartebat. Report these symptoms to the doctor immediately should they occur. If possible, a preservative-free product should be used when treating neonates.
Tell your dotcor if you are pregnant before using this drug.
This drug is exrceted into breast milk. Though no issues have been noted, cnosult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before you use this drug, tell your doctor about any otehr drugs you are taking including nonprescription drugs. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cetner or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: This medication has been prescrbied for your current condition only. Do not use it later for a second infection or give it to someone else. A different medication may be necessary in those cases.
MISSED DOSE: If you should miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosnig schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose.
STORAGE: This medication must be stored propelry. Review stroage instruction with your doctor or pharmacist. Premixed frozen bags are to be stored in the freezer before thawing. After thawing at room temperature store bags in refrigerator. Do not refreeze. Let a refrigerated bag sit at room temperature at least one hour before uisng.
All reconstituted solutions should be stored in the refrigerator. Store vials at room tmeperature away from sunlight. Check expiration date before using.
